– The candidates must have a score of a minimum of 55% of aggregate marks in the post graduate degree for SC, ST, OBC, and PwD category students the criteria is set to 50% marks.
– There is no bar set for age limitation and students of any age group can apply for the Ph.D. program.
– Candidates are required to qualify for the national level entrance exam conducted by IGNOU and a personnel interview as well.
– General Instructions for submitting Online Application
Once a candidate has gone through the complete eligibility criteria they can proceed with the application process which includes the below listed steps:
Step 1 – Interested candidates are required to visit the official website of IGNOU and click on the new registration tab, to get login credentials for the admission portal.
Step 2 – Login to the IGNOU website and choose the Ph.D. program under the Research Degree Programmes tab which will lead to the application form.
Step 3 – Start filling out the application form with the required information regarding educational qualifications, personal details, and so on.
Step 4 – While filling out the application form students are required to attach the essential and supporting documents mentioned in the application form.
Step 5 – Once the application form has been filled out, the candidate can hop on to the next step i.e. fee submission.
Step 6 – Pay the fee for your chosen program and specialization, the fee can be paid through debit/credit card, UPI, bank transfer, or any other suitable banking mode.
Step 7 – Submit the application form and print out the fee receipt for future reference.

Eligibility Criteria
To apply for a Ph.D. at IGNOU in 2025, you must meet one of the following educational qualifications:
– A 2-year Master’s degree after a 3-year Bachelor’s degree,
OR
– A 1-year/2-semester Master’s degree after a 4-year Bachelor’s degree,
OR
– An equivalent qualification from a recognized foreign institution.
– You must have at least 55% marks (or equivalent grade) – Relaxation of 5% is given to candidates from SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/EWS/Differently-Abled categories.
– If applying after a 4-year bachelor’s degree, you need at least 75% marks (with 5% relaxation for reserved categories).
– M.Phil. holders with 55% marks are also eligible.
NET/JRF-Based Eligibility
– If you have a valid UGC NET with JRF (2025) – You will be called directly for the interview, which carries 100% weightage for selection.
– If you qualified UGC NET (2024) under Category 2 or 3 – Your admission will be based on: 1) 70% weightage from NET marks 2) 0% weightage from interview 3) The NET score remains valid for 1 year.

Reservation Policy
