Candidates must satisfy ONE of the following academic qualification requirements for IGNOU Ph.D. in Political Science course:
- Master’s Degree in Political Science / Politics / International Relations – from a UGC-recognized university or equivalent institution, with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate.
- Relaxation of 5% marks (i.e., 50% aggregate) for SC / ST / OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) / Differently-Abled / EWS candidates.
- A valid UGC-NET score in Political Science (or Social Sciences) is required for Categories I, II, and III. Category IV candidates appear for IGNOU’s University-level Entrance Test.Candidates with a 4-year / 8-semester bachelor’s degree with 75% marks (70% for reserved categories) are eligible for direct PhD admission per UGC Regulations 2022.
- M.Phil. degree holders in Political Science with 55% marks (50% for reserved categories) are also eligible.
- Equivalent qualification from a foreign university accredited by a recognized statutory authority in the home country is also accepted.
